Trade Portal Governance

1.  Governance Structure of the TIP

The Namibia Trade Information Portal (TIP) is a national project involving all stakeholders working on trade-related matters. It enjoys high-level support at senior and ministerial levels, and broader ownership in terms of its development, usage, functionality and its management. The TIP governance structure includes.

  • A multisectoral TIP steering committee (SC) comprising high level officials from all government organisations, ministries and agencies (OMAs) working on trade-related issues. It is responsible for policy direction on the development and focus of the TIP.
  • A multisectoral TIP technical working group (TWG) comprising all OMAs working on trade-related issues which is responsible for overseeing the functionality of TIP, monitoring performance of the portal, securing active participation, collaboration and input from different ministries and stakeholders, including data sharing and uploading. Each OMA appointed a focal contact person for the TWG. It meets quarterly and reports to the SC.
  • TIP Coordination Unit (comprising three officers) housed within the Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the TIP, coordinating work with focal contact persons in each OMA for purposes of updating information on the TIP.
