Requirements for Second-hand Motor Vehicles Imported from Abroad
The following are requirements and guidelines when applying for import permit for second – hand motor vehicles:
- Invoice or Pro–forma invoice with full details;
- Cancellation Certificate, Registration Certificate, Deregistration Certificate or Export Certificate;
- Bill of lading;
- Certified ID/Passport/Permanent Residents; and
- Registration Certificate (CC or (Pty) Ltd or Sole Trader) Company registration documents and copy of ID or Passport 4
- General Information on Import and Export Procedures of Owners Registration certificate/de-registration certificate from the country of export must be fully translated into English. (All documents that are not in English must be translated by a legitimate sworn translator)
- Proof of payment/transfer of funds.
It should also be noted that
- Customs authorities in Namibia prohibit the conveyance of left-hand drive vehicles into the country. An exception is made for diplomats only.
- Importation of vehicles that are more than 12 years old is prohibited
- Starting from March 1, 2023, the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) requires that all second-hand cars must come into Namibia on a special trailer called a car carrier.
- Importation of motor-vehicle whether new or second-hand attract import duties and taxes at the applicable tariff rate of duty.
